Three people died but rescuers pulled at least 12 alive, including two children, from the rubble of a collapsed apartment building in the northern Indian city of Lucknow today. It is possible that many others are still trapped in the debris.
According to a local police officer, at least 30-35 people remain trapped. Rescuers try to remove the debris, in a densely populated district of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.
The director general of police said the collapse may have been caused by the 5.6-magnitude earthquake earlier today in western Nepal, 440 kilometers from Lucknow.
