Earthquake Now: 5.7 magnitude quake east of Rhodes

A strong earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale occurred off Rhodes and was particularly felt in Karpathos, as well as in the surrounding islands.

No serious damage was recorded, however, due to the fact that the tremor was recorded in a marine area.

The focal depth, according to the Revised Solution of the Geodynamic Institute, is estimated at 22 km while the location is 58 km southeast of Lindos. It is noted that a little earlier, the Geodynamics gave the magnitude of the tremor at 5.7 Richter and the focal depth at 10 km.

The Euro-Mediterranean Institute also estimates the earthquake at 5.9 Richter.
