The 12th matchday calendar for the EuroCup, brought Prometheus face to face with Buduchnost in Patras and the audience of “D. Tofalos” had every reason to believe in victory with the final 81-72 justifying Christopoulos’ team.
Arnoldas Kulboka was there and did… everything for this result especially in the second half where the Patrinos got the most distance from their opponent. He scored 22 of his 30 points in the period 21′-37′ and locked a victory with great importance!
The start of Prometheus was quite… appetizing, and after Reynolds’ three-pointer, they responded with a 6-0 run that began with Kulboka and ended with Simpson, with the latter scoring from a distance to keep Buduchnost at a distance (9 -5). Bell-Hines, on the other hand, gave solutions to the guests who had small… traps for Prometheus and reached 11-12 in 6′. Hogg with five personal points at that point was the reason to change again the lead maintained with Dangubic at the end of the quarter (20-18). The Patrinos had high percentages both near the racket and outside the arc from where they scored in the first minutes of the second period and took a significant “breather” from their opponent up to 31-22. Green and Atits allowed Buduchnost to get closer, but Kulboka with a goal-foul added points and… peace to Prometheus (36-28). Hogg ended the half at 41-33 after partnering with Ghika, with the hosts shooting a “generous” 68.8% on two-pointers (11/16 to 11/24 by the Montenegrins) and 40% on three-pointers (4/10 with 1/8 and 25% opposite). Campa came on with energy after the fourth quarter and a steal completed the upset for 41-35, before Cowan set up the game’s biggest lead (47-35) to that point. Popovich and Reynolds took advantage of the (second) chances they got from their teammates and immediately reduced to -5 (49-44). The French center was raising questions about the racket of the home team, but the continuation of the third quarter reserved a competitive six minutes without a score for the guests. There, the “bobber” Kulboka with eight personal points from 10-0 sent Prometheus to +15 (63-48) at 30′.
Kulboka was still putting the ball in the net, Dangubic was quite active, as was Camba in the other racket that after his own offensive rebound, Popovic with a goal-foul made it 67-56. The Lithuanian (28 points) seemed to find no obstacle and the defense of Prometheus raised… walls in his opponent’s attempts to return (74-61). Simpson entered the equation and sent the difference to 16 (77-61) 4’09” before the end, while the Montenegrins tried their last counterattack to no avail.
The quarters: 20-18, 41-33, 63-50, 81-72
