Ukraine – Burbok: We are fighting Russia, not each other

The German Foreign Minister, Analena Burbokcalled for unity among Western allies amid debate over German tank deliveries to Ukraine.

We are waging a war against Russia, not among ourselvesBurbock emphasized at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

He admitted that Germany needs to do more, saying:Yes, we must do more to defend Ukraine. Yes, we need to do more on the tanks as well“, but noted that unity among allies remains the most “critical part” of supporting Ukraine against Russia.

He warned that there should be no back-and-forth over whether or not Berlin will allow the delivery of Leopard 2 tanks, which Kyiv says are vital to recapturing territory seized by Russia.

Internal disputes mean Russian leader Vladimir Putin is winning, Germany’s foreign minister added.

Germany in Poland: We will respond as soon as possible, taking into account the emergency situation

The issue of sending Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine is heating up the mood between the Baltic states and Germany, with Berlin’s hesitancy maintaining the tension in the EU. There is little time left for the German response to Warsaw, which sent a formal request for the re-export of Leopard 2 to Kyiv.

“Berlin will examine and decide on the dispatch of 14 tanks to Ukraine,” said a representative of the German leadership after the request was submitted. However, the answer may arrive within two weeks.

On Tuesday, the German official told reporters: “We will settle the matter taking into account the state of emergency.”

It is noted that German law stipulates that countries using German weaponry must seek Berlin’s permission if they want to transfer the material to a third country.
