Two Colombianswho were listed in Ukrainian armywere killed in battles with Russian forces in Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bogota announced yesterday Wednesday.
The “two Colombian nationals were in Ukraine since December and belonged to the 49th infantry battalion of the Ukrainian army,” the Latin American country’s Foreign Ministry explained in a press release.
“According to the battalion’s information, both were killed in action on January 18,” he added.
The Colombian diplomacy clarified that “there was communication from the Colombian embassy in Poland with the wives of the two nationals, who were informed about the repatriation process” of the bodies of the fallen.
Colombian volunteers are fighting in the ranks of both sides of the war in Ukraine.
Some have joined the International Legion for the Defense of Ukraine. Others, notably former fighters of the now disbanded FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) rebel group, are fighting alongside Russian forces and pro-Russian separatists in the Donbass (east).
